UW MEDICINE IT SERVICES, including UW Medicine and the National Alzheimer’s Coordination Center (NACC), has an outstanding job opportunity for a SOFTWARE DEVELOPER 3 (UI/UX) position.

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates MUST have experience in a HEALTHCARE or RESEARCH IT setting. WORK SCHEDULE

  • 100% FTE – 40 hours per week

  • Day Shift – UW MEDICINE ITS SERVICES CORE HOURS ARE 07:00 – 16:00 (PST), Monday-Friday POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Supporting the development and delivery of informatics services for biomedical and clinical research projects within NACC and partner organizations of the University of Washington, UW Medicine, and beyond.

  • Improving mission critical operational support systems and enhance Research IT and NACC’s ability to serve researchers.

  • Developing and maintaining formal technical documentation for effective communication and collaboration with other NACC team members, including change tracking and management.

  • Building and maintaining strong, long-lasting, stakeholder relationships by developing a solid understanding of NACC software needs, current practices, pain points, and strategic initiatives.

  • Participating in the timely and successful delivery of advanced level Research IT software solutions according to stakeholder needs and objectives.

  • Collaborating in the effective planning, design, execution, and transition phases to support research in systems and applications aimed at advancing the objectives of patient care, research, and education. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Neighborhood Clinics (UWNC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM), and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). In addition, UW Medicine shares in the ownership and governance of Children’s University Medical Group and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (a partnership between UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research, and Seattle Children’s). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You collaborate with the NACC Solutions Development Team on advanced level design and development of user interfaces for data search and access tools, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and backend engineers.

  • You design scalable and maintainable front-end solutions, leveraging modern web technologies and frameworks to ensure high performance and responsiveness.

  • You develop reusable UI components and libraries to streamline the development process and maintain consistency across the application.

  • You implement advanced level data visualization techniques to present complex datasets in a clear and comprehensible manner, utilizing libraries such as D3.js or WebGL.

  • You design and implement user authentication, authorization, and access control mechanisms to safeguard sensitive user data and ensure compliance with security standards.

  • You perform the role of biomedical informatics consultant to researchers needing clinical data, including intake, problem definition, solution design, execution, and delivery of datasets in a compliant manner.

  • You collaborate in developing and delivering advanced level training for end users to effectively utilize developing resources.

  • You evaluate and provide expert advice and configuration support for integrating third party tools with existing systems.

  • You respond to advanced level technical design issues and questions for any and all matters specific to Research IT software, including operational, technical, and administrative elements that ensure the availability, reliability, security, and performance of the servers necessary to support the needs of the researchers.

  • You keep up-to-date on the latest UI/UX trends, best practices, and technology. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field or equivalent education and/or experience.

  • 5+ years of overall experience to include the below.

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in a healthcare or research IT setting.

  • Strong experience and the ability to guide other developers in at least 1 of the following:o Front-end development and UI/UX design.o Object-oriented or web language (e.g., Java, C#, TypeScript).o Database query language (e.g., SQL, SPARQL).o Scripting language (e.g., Python).

  • 2+ years of experience working with or have working knowledge of the following:o Experience with data visualization libraries such as D3.js, WebGL, or Three.js, and proficiency in creating interactive charts, graphs, and dashboards.o Cloud-native deployment and technologies.o Experience working with and working knowledge of REST APIs.o Container-based micro-service development (using Docker, Podman, and/or Kubernetes).o Machine Learning (ML) or Natural Language Processing (NLP methods).o 5+ years of experience in formal application/software development (source code version control, validation / deployment / maintenance).o Proven track record of delivering high-quality UI/UX solutions for complex web applications, with a strong portfolio showcasing your design and development skills.o Deep understanding of user-centered design principles, information architecture, and interaction design, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics.o Strong experience and the ability to independently guide customers in information technology environments involved in performing database queries, transforming data structures, and data analysis.o Strong experience and the ability to lead small to medium sized projects in front-end web development using React, Angular, or other modern web development libraries and frameworks.o Strong experience and the ability to lead small to medium sized projects in clinical, biomedical, or public health research data management including experience with healthcare data standards (HL7, RxNorm, LOINC, CPT, etc.). CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This is an Information Technology deadline-driven work environment.

  • The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours. The work may be performed in either an office environment or by telecommuting with manager approval, during normal business hours; however, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and respond to emergencies. This individual is expected to be available for emergencies (business continuity/disaster recovery efforts) on a 24x7 basis as needed.

  • Must coordinate projects without direct supervisory authority.

  • Must work within the constraints of multiple technical environments.

  • The individual in this position must learn many organizational structures and cultures and continually foster collaboration.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
