Greenwich Country Day School Computer Science Teacher, Grades 6-8 in Greenwich, Connecticut
The Greenwich Country Day School is an independent, co-educational day school with a current enrollment of over 1400 students in grades N-12, and a faculty and staff of over 350. The original Old Church Road campus is home to grades N-8. The High School (9-12,) established in 2019, is located less than two miles away on the Stanwich Road campus. Greenwich Country Day School seeks a Computer Science Teacher, Grades 6-8, to start in August 2024 . The Crea tive Applied Technologies department comprises faculty from Computer Science and the Makerspace. Every student graduating from GCDS will build and creatively apply our design process to technologies to develop ambitious ideas and in our growing Maker community. Students who “make” will use their creativity and imagination to design and create creative works that solve real-world problems through the lens of conservation, sustainability, and social good. Students will employ design thinking skills to solve problems, apply prior knowledge, and pursue self-directed learning. Students who delve deeply into the computer science program apply cutting-edge tools to examine, modify, and redesign the digital, social, and physical world around them. Topics of cybersecurity, web and app development, drone piloting, financial technologies, virtual reality, and data science all meld together with the sciences, arts, mathematics, and humanities to provide a holistic view of the way our lives are shaped by technological progress.

Responsibilities Include:
Teach software programming and hardware courses while demonstrating the importance of writing efficient and effective code
Teach technical and ethical dimensions of computer science and its applications
Support students in fulfilling their maximum potential in mastering course content and assessing student achievement
Provide a consistent critique of the efficacy of the existing curriculum as well as an awareness of the changing needs of the industry
Maintain competency in programming languages and computer technologies
Pursue professional development in the computer science education field
Provide significant office hours availability to students
Attend staff and departmental meetings
Communication with parents, students, and colleagues
Collaborative work with colleagues on grade level, subject area, and interdisciplinary faculty teams
Contribution toward athletic or co-curricular programming in addition to classroom role
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
A minimum of 3-years successful classroom teaching experience with students in this age group, or demonstrated professional competency
Experience with some or all of the following:
Python, Java, Scratch, Git
Web frameworks; html5 & css3/JavaScript React-Angular-Node JS/CSS3/Jquery/MySql
Linux/Unix, Android/iOS
Electronics/circuits/Basic Gates, Arduino, microcontrollers, robotics, basic mechanical engineering
Fabrication: 3D printing, laser cutting, fabrication technique
CAD software, Adobe Suite, 3D modeling minimum
Artificial intelligence models
Experience with inquiry-based and/or project-based learning
A passion for learning and the ability to motivate and inspire students
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Commitment to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community
Willingness to take on multiple roles within the school
Personal traits appropriate for nurturing the growth of children - must be energetic, creative, flexible, patient, and have an inexhaustible sense of humor
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in academic/research field and/or professional experience within your area of practice
Demonstrated capacity and desire to teach across multiple disciplines/subject areas
Experience in and desire to build culture and community with both adults and students
Experience as an academic advisor
Experience advising independent and original student research
Athletic coaching experience
Demonstrated experience in establishing collaborative relationships with external partners/organizations in the design and implementation of learning experiences
