Job Description:

Role Summary: The WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting and promoting nutrition and breastfeeding initiatives within the community. This position involves organizing informational materials, authorizing equipment rentals, liaising with state agencies, and overseeing breastfeeding programs and training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and present informational material on WIC, nutrition, and breastfeeding to the community.

  • Authorize and manage electric breast pump rentals and oversee inventory tracking.

  • Communicate with the State WIC Agency regarding monthly reports and cost containment.

  • Review and approve breastfeeding materials and visual displays for WIC offices.

  • Represent MaineGeneral Health at state and local WIC meetings, presenting relevant information to WIC staff.

  • Develop and monitor breastfeeding training programs for all WIC staff.

  • Prepare and submit breastfeeding outreach plans and reports to the State WIC Agency.

  • Train and supervise WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors.

  • Conduct WIC outreach clinics to serve WIC-eligible populations outside the main service areas.

  • Collaborate with community partners to ensure outreach clinics are welcoming and safe.

  • Engage in outreach efforts to maintain client participation and clinic viability.

  • Connect with community services and WIC vendors to increase awareness and address issues related to WIC services.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or a health-related field, or Registered Dietetic Technician.

  • Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) required within 12 months of hire; IBCLC preferred.

  • Excellent critical thinking and communication skills.

  • Ability to complete required WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Training and Continuing Education credits.

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) - Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) preferred.
